Voices of the Villainized

Oppressed groups have known instinctively that stories are an essential tool to their own survival and liberation

Our first series consists of few short community interviews. Hear from a fitness guy, a mother, a few entrepreneurs, a show runner and a young environmental activist. Brownsvillains are people first!

Brownsville residents are often characterized as villains though their personal stories are seldom told. In the clips above, we take to the streets to have residents voice their own opinions. Decide for yourself, who are Brownsvillains? Why are they characterized this way? What do they have to say about their own community and what are their hopes for the future of Brownsville?

Stereotype threat is a situational predicament in which people are or feel themselves to be at risk of conforming to stereotypes about their social group.
